About Your Music Teacher

I'm excited to begin the 2009-2010 school year. This year is my seventh year of teaching, and my third year in the Maize School District. Some of my teaching accomplishments include receiving the Kansas State Department of Education's (KSDE) Horizon Award, the ING Unsung Heroes Award, six SONIC Limeades for Learning Awards, and receiving several other grants for my music classroom.

Throughout the school year we will have special themes. All weekly lessons will include a M&M activity (Music and Movement), STILL (Silent Time for Individual Listening Link), W.O.W. (Words Of the Week), and several songs. Some of my planned themes for this year are Jazz, Mallet Madness, Opera, Bach to the Future, and Spirituals.

We will also be using technology each week. Every Friday is “Music Madness” and all students will rotate through different music centers. An iPod center, computer center, Promethean center, and a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) center.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband Charles and my two boys Warren (6) and Ethan (4). My husband Charles has been a teacher for the last nine years in the Wichita School District. He teaches 2nd grade at Kensler Elementary. As a family we enjoy hiking the nature trails at Pawnee Prairie Park, riding bikes, and visiting the zoo.
